CrewAI Raises $45M Series B to Build the "Operating System for AI Agent Teams"

CrewAI has raised $45 million in Series B funding led by Andreessen Horowitz to expand its multi-agent orchestration platform. The company plans to launch CrewAI Enterprise with role-based access control, audit logging, and SOC 2 compliance.

CrewAI, the open-source framework for orchestrating teams of AI agents, has raised $45 million in Series B funding. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) with participation from Sequoia Capital, Founders Fund, and Y Combinator.

The funding will be used to build CrewAI Enterprise, a managed platform targeting large organizations that want to deploy AI agent teams in production with enterprise-grade security, compliance, and observability.

CrewAI Enterprise Features (Planned):

  • Role-based access control (RBAC) for agent management
  • SOC 2 Type II compliance
  • Audit logging for all agent actions and decisions
  • Private deployment options (on-premises, VPC)
  • Integration with enterprise identity providers (Okta, Azure AD)
  • Cost management dashboards with per-agent spend tracking

CrewAI has seen rapid adoption since its open-source launch, with over 50,000 GitHub stars and usage by teams at Adobe, Spotify, and McKinsey. The framework's role-based agent design — where each agent has a defined role, goal, and backstory — has proven intuitive for business users who think in terms of team structures.

"We're building the operating system for AI agent teams," said João Moura, CrewAI's founder. "Just as Kubernetes became the standard for container orchestration, CrewAI aims to be the standard for agent orchestration."
